A blog where I embarrass myself reviewing indie games I know nothing about and challenge the videogame industry's expectations of what a "gamer" is!

I have never played Spyro in my life...

Who is The Aloof Gamer?

My name is Katie. I grew up playing the classic games you know and love; Mario, SIMS, Animal Crossing, etc. However, society doesn't view me as a "gamer".

(Sure, I play about 2-3 hours of HomeScapes on my phone every day, but who's counting?!)

What I mean to say is that I never really associated with videogame culture until recently. I'm more of a "go-outside-and-experience-the-world-in-real-time" kind of person... That being said, I have nothing against videogames... I'm just not very good at them and tend to expect a lot.

(Hence the aloof approach).

What do I do?

I've been trying out more "indie" or "independent" games lately. These are games by independent studios that don't have these BIG budgets as the larger studios do (e.g. Bethesda, Nintendo, VALVE, etc.) They're games like Stardew Valley, Celeste, or Cuphead. The big studio games have such a following that it can be intimidating to dip into, that's what makes indie games so appealing.

On this blog, I will review indie games that appeal to me, a "non-gamer" by society's standards. There is a TON to explore. I'm not going to lie... I'm pretty hard to please when it comes to games. I need a good story, good graphics, logic... The WHOLE nine yards! It may get snarky and it may get emotional, but I'm here for the journey.

The last time I played an indie game I had no idea what I was doing. What is a medpack? an aggro? a debuff? And why does everyone keep saying "gg" to me after every game?

I have A LOT to learn...

Changing the industry

The more people that get involved with videogames, the more the industry will have to offer. Right now it's hard for me to find games that fit my style. I'm sure it's hard for lots of other people too.

That's where you come in. When I review a game, I want your feedback! You should play some games too!

Tell me what you learned, tell me what you liked, tell me what could be better!

Because we're the consumers, we're the ones that ultimately gain something from these games. We can change and expand the videogame world one review at a time!
